[District Updates]

Sherlyn K. (Van Westen) Cooper, wife of the Rev. Donald Cooper, Lincoln,
departed this life on Sunday, February 11, 2007, at the age of 57.  She
was born in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, on November 13, 1949, to Hilbert
and Delsie (Schmidt) Van Westen.  She graduated from Marion High School,
South Dakota, and went on to attend college at Northwestern in Orange
City, Iowa.  She was united in marriage to Donald Cooper in Monroe,
South Dakota, on August 29, 1969.  Sherlyn had worked at a bank in
Springfield, South Dakota, prior to working in the dental field.  She
was currently employed at the UNL College of Dentistry at the time of
her death.  Pastor Cooper was ordained in 1980 and served congregations
in Milbank/Revillo, South Dakota; Springfield, South Dakota; and
Tecumseh and Lincoln, Nebraska.  Sherlyn's main priorities were her
faith, family, and friends.

 

Sherlyn is survived by her husband, Rev. Donald E. Cooper, Lincoln; two
sons, Gregory (Connie) of Lincoln and Bradley (Heather) of Hebron; four
grandchildren, Cassie, Brett, Hannah, and Ashlyn; parents, Hilbert and
Delsie Van Westen of Monroe, South Dakota; sister, Brenda Ratliff (Alan)
of Lennox, South Dakota; brother, Dale Van Westen (Shelli) of Steen,
Minnesota; nieces, nephews, and many friends.  

 

The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, February
14, 2007, at St. John Lutheran Church, Tecumseh, Nebraska.  A memorial
service will also be held at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 14, at
Immanuel Lutheran Church, Lincoln.  Visitation at Wherry Mortuary in
Tecumseh will be Tuesday, February 13, from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. with
family available from 6:00-8:00 p.m.  Interment will be at Tecumseh
Cemetery.
