Bernice I. (Mussell) Russert, wife of the Rev. Martin Russert, Norfolk, departed this life on Monday, April 7, 2008, at the age of 78.  She was born in Plainview, Minnesota, on July 17, 1929, to Adolph and Blanche (Grieve) Mussell.  She attended rural school and then graduated from Plainview High School.  She married Rev. Martin L. Russert on June 29, 1947, in Plainview.  The couple lived in Ukiah, California; Fort Slocum, New York; Montgomery, Alabama; Chanute Air Force Base, Rantoul, Illinois; Osage, Iowa; and Norfolk, Nebraska.  Pastor Russert served the following congregations:  Faith, Ukiah, California; Trinity, Osage, Iowa; Grace, Norfolk, Nebraska; and assistant pastor, St. John, Battle Creek, Nebraska.  Bernice was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Norfolk and served in many and various ways.

Bernice is survived her husband, Rev. Martin Russert; three daughters and sons-in-law, Pamela and Jay Floetke, Leavenworth, Kansas; Natalie and Rex Alewel, Concordia, Missouri; and Tina and Joel Austin, Norfolk; one son and daughter-in-law, David and Sandra Russert, Mount Vale, New Jersey; one brother, Adolph Mussell, Jr., Bloomington, Minnesota; two sisters, Lois Carter, Plainview, Minnesota, and Marjorie Struck, Haledon, New Jersey; 17 grandchildren and 6 step-grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents, two sons, and five brothers.

The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 10, 2008, at Grace Lutheran Church, Norfolk, Nebraska.  Interment will be at Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery, Norfolk, Nebraska.  Visitation will be Wednesday, April 9, from 3-8 p.m. at Home for Funerals, Norfolk.
