Update for May 27
A publication of the Nebraska District, a District ABLAZE!
Greetings in the name of our Heavenly Father!
Once again, this week's Update will be short and to the point. With the District Convention beginning one week from tomorrow, things are moving quickly and all of those last minute details are getting attention. This week's Update shares some important information for the delegates to the Convention. Remember, there will be no Update next week, and the June 10 newsletter will be filled with news from the Convention.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION FROM THE BLUE RIBBON TASK FORCE ON SYNOD STRUCTURE AND GOVERNANCE
The following is from an email sent by the LCMS Blue Ribbon Task Force on Synod Structure and Governance. Because the Task Force does not have e-mail addresses for each district convention's lay delegates, at their urging we are sharing this message with district convention lay delegates in this way. If your congregational delegate does not have email, or did not share their email address with us, please pass this information along to them. More information on their work is available at www.lcms.org/lcmsfuture<http://www.ne16.com/t/9318625/78092750/52218424/0/>.
The Blue Ribbon Task Force on Synod Structure and Governance is scheduled to present proposals for consideration and feedback at each LCMS district convention this year. (Their presentation in Nebraska will be Friday, June 5, at 3:35 p.m.) To date, nine districts have held their conventions and the task force's report has been given. In the feedback to those presentations, the task force has been asked whether convention participants may review the current proposals in advance of the task force's presentation. The answer is a resounding "yes!"
The task force's current proposals for consideration and feedback are posted online at www.lcms.org/lcmsfuture<http://www.ne16.com/t/9318625/78092750/52218424/0/>. They have been posted since April, just prior to the opening of the Oklahoma District Convention.
As always, the task force encourages any and all feedback to the proposals being presented. Please contact us at lcmsfuture at lcms.org<mailto:lcmsfuture at lcms.org>. Your input will be valuable as the task force prepares its final report to be released in October 2009.
Kindly in Christ,
Rev. Robert C. Greene
Chair, Blue Ribbon Task Force on Synod Structure and Governance
"GRAN KERMESSE CULTURAL" AT CRISTO CORDERO DE DIOS
Everyone is invited to a "Gran Kermesse Cultural" at Cristo Cordero de Dios (512 East 2nd Street in Grand Island) on Sunday, May 31. Music and food begin at 2:00 p.m. Think of this as a mini-ethnic festival. There will be a live band, and food will be available for sale from home countries of the members of Cristo Cordero, including Guatemala, Venezuela, Chile, and Mexico. Please join in the fun!
This is the original "home" of Trinity Lutheran. The sanctuary was built in 1894. It was just "finished" last winter with new sheet rock and paint. This was a joint effort by several congregations in the Grand Island area. Please join our friends at Cristo Cordero in celebration of God's blessings and take this opportunity to see the inside of their sanctuary.
I look forward to seeing many of you next week at the District Convention at Concordia University, Seward. If you are not attending, please remember those who are traveling and attending in your prayers.
Blessings,
Nichole Hetz
